Product Sustainability

At Red Seal, we believe we can make incredible products and be kind to the planet in the process.

Although sustainability is a global movement, every country has a unique context which influences the way this movement evolves. New Zealanders have traditionally had a high regard for the natural resources of our country, we love to fish, we have long standing fishing quotas, and we have a high percentage of renewable energy. We treasure clean water, national parks but also a fair society and economic success to future-proof the economy and punch above our weight in the world.

Red Seal Ethical Tea Sourcing

Ethical Sourcing

This is why Red Seal works with Rainforest Alliance, an international non-profit organisation working at the intersection of business, agriculture and forests. They aim to create a better future for people and nature by making responsible business the new normal.

Our Rainforest Alliance Certified ingredients mean contributing to lifting rural people out of poverty by improving sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers, workers, and their families. Training farmers to grow better crops using climate-smart agriculture, which help them mitigate and adapt to climate impacts, while promoting more sustainable land management practices to protect forests, biodiversity, and natural resources. Plus addressing human rights abuses like child and forced labour, low wages, poor working conditions, and gender inequality.

Sustainable Packaging

Global challenges of packaging waste and climate change have made this a growing focus. At Red Seal, we are taking a hard look at the packaging we use and how we can drive change.

While our current toothpaste tubes are not recyclable, we are excited to share that we're in the final stages of validating a recyclable material for our tubes. Until recently it’s been a challenge making sure our potent ingredients, such as our essential oils don't interact adversely with the plastic tube. We know this change is important, and our team are working diligently to deliver a tube that is more sustainable and ensures the integrity of your Red Seal toothpaste.

Additionally, most of our new herbal & green teas with plastic-free packaging are now in stock. Featuring updated packaging designed with sustainability in mind - we have eliminated the plastic wrapper traditionally used around our tea cartons, replacing it with a new more functional and kerbside recyclable cardboard alternative. We are also members of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), a not for profit organisation leading the development of a circular economy for packaging in Australia and New Zealand.
